The Superintendent also communicates vessel operation sequence and stevedoring requirements to subordinates. Essential Duties: Attend preplanning meetings and costumer wish plan. Prepare vessel plans for discharge and stow and get approval from customer and vessel to ensure proper load limits, balance gang hours. Supervises advance-planning activities prior to the ship coming into port. Checks berth conditions for docking, work areas for safe operation of stevedores and checkers, and that all labor has been assembled for adequate and efficient operations; Supervises the gangs for vessel loading and unloading, in accordance with the vessel plan; Ensures that each gang is organized, that each person knows what to do and when to do it, so that productivity levels are high; Ensures that the load and discharge is performed accurately and timely. Coordinates these activities through the ILA foremen on the assigned shift. Key focal point for the ship's crew; Instruct subordinates in safe working practices; Instructs subordinates in proper, standard operating procedures; Provides close supervision to subordinate staff, providing regular feedback; Holds regular meetings with subordinates, giving them current company information, emphasizing good safety practices for the terminal; Counsels subordinates, up to and including discipline or termination recommendations; Follows company management policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreement, and local practices in the application of supervising subordinates; Identifies and solves problems and issues on a daily basis, usually of a routine or moderately complex nature; Reports problems and issues to the appropriate Manager, as needed, especially issues of complexity or great impact on the operation; Acts as a focal point for any stevedoring issues that may arise with an assigned vessel; Approve vessel and weekly operational payroll sheets. Supervise the weekly operations of the transfer docks and the interchange for the assigned costumer. Conduct safety reviews of the daily operations and submit reports of findings. Do investigations of damages and complete complaint forms and make recommendations. Other duties as assigned. Managed the site for several months with no assistance, and maintained a ZERO time loss status for nearly 36 months. ILA CLERK Ports America - Freeport, TX March 2008 to August 2012 Inventory/Inspection Inventory clerk for Ports America located in the Port of freeport. Supervisor labor in loading and unloading cargo coming and going in and out of the Ports America. Cargo consists but no limited to fruits and vegetables as well as part and cars to be shipped to other countries. Conduct shipping containers inspection and report any and all defeasance. Maintain security of the student assigned to the facility for the duration of the court ordered time. Ensure they are present and following the rules set forth by the Juvenile Justice Center for Brazoria County. Provide random drug testing when needed.
