This includes controlling all rail movement in the yard, assigning work to switch crews, and arriving/departing trains in such a manner as to streamline the flow of the yard and maximize its utilization while still maintaining an on-time outbound program *Monitor all employees and workplace conditions for safety compliance to Federal Railroad Administration rules (through efficiency testing) and OSHA regulations *Plan inbound/outbound train flow to maintain fluidity in the terminal – reviewing capacity constraints and ensuring the inbound railcar supply will cover projected loading requirements *Work with mechanical forces to make sure necessary repairs are made to locomotives and railcars and that regular maintenance and repairs are done on lift equipment (cranes and trucks) so all resources are in place to run trains on-time *Coordinate with other LA Basin terminals to maximize the length of outbound trains and move assets within the LA Basin as necessary to cover short-term shortages. This includes a heavy emphasis on coordination with the many on-dock rail facilities in the combined ports of LA and Long Beach *Report terminal status to company executives on conference calls held several times during the day and be able to answer questions as required. *Work with shippers, outside drayage companies and customer service daily to address customer needs and concerns.
