* IMPORTANT UPDATE AS OF SEPT 14:
Approximately 60,000 HJCU prefix are actually Textainer owned (scroll to bottom of this page to see list of HJCU #'s)
UPDATED CONTACT INFO BELOW (as of September 8, 2016)
If you are stuck with empty Hanjin, it is still possible to terminate empties IF the container is a lease box. Trish, Sally and I have contacted several container leasing companies and YES, they do want their containers back from Hanjin.
Go through your prefixes under Hanjin booking and look for non-HJCU.
Email these leasing companies the entire container prefix number AND city location of box. They will email you back authorization and where to terminate their box.

* if blue Hanjin owned box with HJCU, no choice than holding empties till plan in place. If you have loaded Hanjin, need to get contents unloaded and into another ocean line box asap. Your shipper should've gotten you a plan already. If you need help finding a transload location let me know.
Be aware of the chassis underneath. If not on your chassis, those daily chassis fees are going to add up quick. Might be worth lifting off the Hanjin box and terminating the chassis.
[ update Sept 8: some depots like Intermodal Cartage / Memphis and ContainerPort depots in Ohio ARE accepting blue HJCU empty boxes. ]

You are strongly cautioned not to purchase any of these units except directly from Textainer or from parties that you know purchased the units from Textainer. Additionally, if you are aware of any party trying to sell any such container or otherwise come across our containers, we would greatly appreciate it if you would inform your usual Textainer representative of these situations.
We understand that this is a tremendously difficult time for the container shipping and logistics industry and we thank you in advance for your commitment to honest business practices. We together look forward to a stronger industry following this disruptive event.
Hanjin Shipping, the 7th largest shipping line filed for bankruptcy on September 1 and is expected to liquidate. Given this very disruptive event, we expect that in the following weeks and months many parties may attempt to steal and re-sell containers previously operated by Hanjin. The vast majority of Hanjin’s shipping containers are owned by leasing companies, including Textainer (note that this also includes Hanjin containers with Hanjin prefixes, most of which are actually owned by leasing companies). You are strongly advised to be cautious in your container purchasing activities and not to deal with unknown or unreliable sources of containers in the near term. If you purchase stolen equipment you may be held liable for dealing in stolen goods. If you have any questions about purchasing containers with Textainer prefixes (AMFU, AMZU, CLHU, GAEU, GATU, PICU, TEXU, TEMU, TGBU, TGHU, TXGU, and XINU), we urge you to contact your usual Textainer representatives to verify that these containers are not currently owned by Textainer.
Regards,
Arshad Hossain
